The Necromancer

Mowat met Relant atop the mountains of the Eastern Ranges.

The dark Keeper’s voice was choked with rage, and Mowat tried exceedingly not to gloat.

“You have defied me,” Relant hissed at the Teacher.

“We can end it here. If you forfeit this war and call the king and his vizier off, you may still retain a fraction of your dignity when this is over.”

“I will forfeit nothing,” Relant growled.

“Then the bloodshed will continue, ending with yours,” Mowat shot back. “I am already halfway to your demise. The world is only days short of reuniting, and when these halves come to term with one another, you will never be able to separate them again.”

“It will never be whole!” Relant lashed out.

Mowat said nothing, only smiled.

“Do not ridicule me, dear Teacher! When I discover your advocate, I will stop this entire timeline!”

“You know nothing.”

“That may be the case, but it is only a slight matter. The sure location of your little student will come to me in due time. I have eyes everywhere.”

“Then that is only a slight matter,” Mowat snapped, and he raised his new staff. “Ciechi!” A haze of stone and flint shot from his staff toward the dark Keeper, who was startled and did not deflect the assault.

It struck his face, and he was instantly blinded. He screamed in pain and clutched his talons to his face.

“Mowat, you fool,” he spat, “I do not need only my eyes to see.”

He opened his mouth and fired off several clicks, reading the flashing images that returned to him. Images of Mowat standing atop his mountain, and of the mountain between them.

“Your student will surely die. And I have an idea of where to look.” He turned his sights to the lone mountain that stood parallel to theirs, and he spread his wings.

“Mount Odel,” he growled, blood streaming from his eye sockets. He caught the brief look of worry that crossed Mowat’s face and he laughed. “And there we are,” he said with satisfaction.
